Winemaker's Tasting Dinners

The last Thursday of May and June – R1 450

Distinctly different from the other Themed Evening dinners, these will be hosted by La Petite Ferme’s talented winemaker Wikus Pretorius who draws on his experience of local and international wines. Prior to joining La Petite Ferme in 2015 Pretorius worked for some of South Africa’s top wineries and estates in the premier wine regions of France, California and Australia.

Winemakers Tasting Dinner 1Thursday 25 May – Viognier takes centre stage. Traditional to France’s northern Rhône valley, the cultivar is known for its delicate acidity, dryness and varied expressions, while the dinner is dedicated to what many consider the ‘king of reds’, Cabernet Sauvignon. Famous as a full-bodied wine, it is nonetheless capable of delicacy and elegance in skilled hands.

Winemakers Tasting Dinner 2Thursday 29 June – it’s the turn of Chardonnay, a bold grape that continues to surprise and delight in all its different guises.

Pretorius will begin each evening with a showcase tasting of four wines – one from La Petite Ferme, two from other local Cape winelands terroirs and one international. All the wines on the evening will be the same cultivar, providing a rare opportunity to compare different expressions and the effect of terroirs and techniques. The tastings will be followed by a three -course food-and-wine spectacular, with dishes inspired by Pretorius’ most sumptuous taste experiences which he gleaned from his world travels.

“These exquisite dishes are not on our restaurant’s à la carte lunch menu and will be paired with wines from La Petite Ferme’s renowned portfolio. Our wine-paired dinners will provide enthusiasts of our beloved restaurant the chance to return to their favourite, month after month…each time to experience a different sensory indulgence,” he explains.
