La Petite Ferme Newsletter – May 2019

May is a busy month! The 1st of May saw us celebrating Worker’s Day with a welcomed public holiday. The 3rd of the month was International Sauvignon Blanc Day, and then the 8th sees South Africans being given a day off to visit the polling stations to make their mark on voting day. Mothers Day falls on the 12th of the month, followed by World Family Day on the 15th and then rounding out the month with World Chardonnay Day on the 23rd.

There are thus so many reasons and opportunities to visit us at La Petite Ferme this month and enjoy a wine tasting and a sumptuous meal with friends and family! If time allows, a stay in our luxurious Vineyard Suites or Manor House is highly recommended for a memorable break.

Celebrate Mothers Day at La Petite Ferme

For a celebratory and leisurely Mothers Day, bring the special ladies in your life to enjoy our seasonal Autumn Menu. Guests can opt for a 2 course or 3 course option. There will also be a special treat for all moms!

Menu items to look forward to include starters such as Duo of Duck, Herbed Buffalo Mozzarella, Baked Camembert, Smoked Salmon Salad and Soup of the Week.  Following this, choose from main courses of Rooibos Honeyed Pork Knuckle, Pulled Lamb, Wild Mushroom Arancini, Pickled Vine Leaf Trout, and Assiette de la Semaine – the dish of the week, which will be inspired by Mother’s Day.  For dessert, be tempted by Pecan Nut Pie, Bourbon Brownie Pumpkin Tart, Saffron Poached Pears and Cake of the Day.  For those preferring a savoury finish, there is the famous La Petite Cheese Board.

There is also a children’s menu, making this the perfect venue for families. Make your reservation by calling us on 021 876 3016 or send a mail to reception@lapetiteferme.co.za.

A toast to International Sauvignon Blanc Day and World Chardonnay Day

The 3rd of May was International Sauvignon Blanc Day and we celebrated with our estate Sauvignon Blanc, which is a blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Nouvelle. Think fresh and clean notes of lime and citrus, with tropical fruits like pineapple and litchi.

Good to know: It’s very easy to match Sauvignon Blanc with food. It pairs beautifully with anything onto which you’d squeeze lemon! Seafood platters, grilled fish, roast vegetables – all go beautifully with Sauvignon Blanc. It’s also terrific with Gruyere or other ripe cheeses, as well as anything with garlic.

The 23rd of May is World Chardonnay Day and what better way to celebrate than with a bottle or two of our Barrel Fermented Chardonnay? It’s magical paired with poultry, cheese and fish – making it ideal to savour alongside our Autumn starters, and also beautifully complements our main course dishes of Rooibos Honeyed Pork Knuckle, Wild Mushroom Arancini and the Pickled Vine Leaf Trout.

A Chardonnay fun fact: According to legend, Chardonnay owes its popularity to the wife of Emperor Charlemagne, who had white wine grapes planted because she was fed up with the red wine stains in his beard!

Meet the team – Avron Williams, Head of Wine Tasting

Avron Williams has been conducting our signature wine tasting tours at La Petite Ferme since 2013, which have evolved over the years. Today, our Vineyard Orientation experience begins with an informative talk led by Avron or one of his team members through our vineyards. Thereafter, guests enjoy a tasting of six wines, complemented with a selection of delicious canapés from our kitchen.

When asked for his tips or tricks about wine tasting, Avron keeps it simple: “Don’t ever be too serious – drinking wine is all about pleasure, fun and enjoyment and so I try to make all our wine tastings exactly that… leaving our guests with good memories in their minds and delicious wine flavours lingering in their mouths.”
